Surrounded by the pristine nature of Gangwon-do, Palbongsan Mountain (elevation 328.2m) is best visited during autumn in October when the red maple leaf tunnel is spectacular. Visualizing spicy water chicken galbi accompanied by savory buckwheat crepes at the foot of the hill makes the final steps to the peak feel effortless. Post-hike, dining at a local valley restaurant is the ultimate reward.
”The mountain is low and small in size, but the eight rocky peaks are connected like eight brothers with arms crossed, and it is adjacent to the Hongcheon River, so it was selected for its beautiful scenery and was designated as a national tourist site.
The hike begins at the ticket booth located right across the bridge from the parking lot. You have to climb Saemok between Peak 1 and Peak 2, and although it is a slightly steep climb, it is not that difficult. If you climb Saemok, you will reach the first peak. At the top, there is Yongsindang (龍神堂), not Sansindang. The hiking trail skips Peak 2 and goes directly to Peak 3. It is a summit and has the best view. In front, you can overlook the mountains of peaks 4, 5, 6, and 7, and the rivers of the North and South to the left and right. To reach Peak 4, you must pass through a narrow cave named “Obstetrics and Gynecology Rock.” For the general public, this is a point of birth pain, and after being scolded and seeing the signboard right before the 8th peak that says, "Climbers without professional equipment should refrain from climbing," they descend without hesitation. However, 8 peaks are not as dangerous as the notice says.
