Embracing fertile plains and highly picturesque valleys, Byeonsan (508.6m) is truly magnificent in cherry blossoms and flower petals rain down in April. Climbing past the tranquil temple courtyard leads to an immense view. A feast of Jeolla-style mountain vegetable bibimbap and freshwater crab soup afterward completes the journey.
”The lush mountains, valleys, sandy coasts, rocky coasts, and temples come together to form an outstanding landscape. It was selected considering the fact that it was designated as a national park (1968), and has the characteristic of being in direct contact with the sea despite being a mountain. Temples such as Jikso Falls, Kamaso, Bongraegugok, Chaeseokgang, Jeokbyeokgang, Naesosa, Gaeamsa, and rare animals and plants such as holly and holly trees inhabit.
If you follow the main road to the northwest in the middle of Wonam Village, you will come across a hiking trail that leads to Jikso Falls. The road is flat, but has many stones and little shade. If you walk for about 40 minutes, you will reach the valley. From here, take the forest road to the left and walk another 30 minutes to reach Jikso Falls, one of the best views of Bongrae Valley. This waterfall is considered one of the ‘Three Temples of Buan’ along with Maechang and Yu Hee-gyeong, famous flags from the reign of King Seonjo. If you go down from Jigsopok along the layered wall for about 15 minutes, you will reach the entrance to Oknyeodam. Oknyeodam can be seen by briefly climbing up the side road on the right. If you go a little further down from here, you will see a sign telling you the way to Wolmyeongam. The hiking trail toward Wolmyeongam is quite steep until you reach the ridge. Nakjodae is located on the ridge behind Wolmyeongam Hermitage. The sunrise at Naksansa Temple on the east coast and the sunset at Wolmyeongam are famous.
The starting point is Buan.
