Inheriting the grand spirit of Gyeongsang region, Hwangseoksan Mountain (1192.5m) is an awesome destination in golden silver grass waves in the autumn breeze in October. After dominating the horizon from the summit, a satisfying bowl of hot pork soup and grilled beef patties in the bustling market alley completes this majestic climb.
”It was selected for its beautiful scenery, including a vast silver grass field on the ridge leading from Geomang to Hwangseok, and the presence of historical relics such as Hwangseoksanseong Fortress. During the Jeongyujaeran, people who resisted the Japanese army to the end died when the fortress collapsed, and women threw themselves off the cliffs of Cheongil. There is a legend that the rocky cliffs on the north side of Hwangseoksan Mountain are the color of blood.
The hike begins from the entrance to Yudong Village, 500 meters in front of the Yongchu Valley ticket office. If you climb to the top of Hwangseoksan Mountain, the view is good. To the north, Deogyusan Mountain of the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range can be seen, and to the southeast, Gamaksan Mountain, to the southeast, Hwangmaesan Mountain, and to the south, Jirisan Mountain. Hwangseoksanseong Fortress spans a rocky ridge extending near the summit. If you climb the northern ridge from the summit of Hwangseoksan Mountain for about 1 hour and 50 minutes, you will reach the silver grass ridge. The summit of Geomangsan Mountain is just a 10-minute climb from the silver grass ridge. You can also start from Ujeon Village in Bongjeon-ri, 8km away from Anui, at the head of Hwangseoksan Mountain. To descend, take the eastern ridge, pass Yeonchon, and reach Yudong Village.
