Inheriting the grand spirit of Gyeongsang region, Cheongnyangsan Mountain (869.7m) is an awesome destination in golden silver grass waves in the autumn breeze in October. After dominating the horizon from the summit, a satisfying bowl of hot pork soup and grilled beef patties in the bustling market alley completes this majestic climb.
”Although the mountain is not large, it is beautiful enough to be considered the Sogeumgang River since ancient times due to the combination of rising rock peaks and strangely shaped cliffs. It was selected considering the fact that it was designated as a provincial park (in 1982), and the Yuribojeon Hall founded by Great Monk Wonhyo, Cheongnyangsa Temple during the Silla Dynasty, Goundae and Dokseokdang, the historical sites of Choi Chi-won, and the place where King Gongmin hid from the Red Turban Rebellion. It is famous for its historical sites, including Omadae (five horses), Cheongnyangsanseong Fortress, Kim Saeng Cave where Kim Saeng studied calligraphy, and Osandang (Cheongnyangjeongsa) where Toegye Yi Hwang practiced and compiled Neo-Confucianism.
About 10 minutes from Cheongnyang Village in Deulmeori, you will pass by the signboard for Naecheongnyangsa Temple. Since it is a road leading into a canyon, there is nothing to see, so it should be used as a descent route. Follow the second information board and enter the trail leading to Oecheongnyangsa Temple. At the fork in the road in front of Osandang after passing Oecheongnyangsa Temple, take the direction toward Kimsaeng Cave. After seeing the waterfall falling from the top of the next cave, climb the steep mountain slope to reach Jalumok between Bosalbong Peak and 841 Peak. From then on, it is a flat ridge up to the summit. When descending, you return to peak 795 and enter the valley that leads to Naecheongyangsa Temple. If you stand on Geumtapbong in the south, you can get a panoramic view of the temple. If you have time, it is worth climbing Chukyongbong Peak. This is the mountain beauty viewing platform at the summit. You can also see Cheongnyangsanseong Fortress and Omadae, the historical site of King Gongmin.
