”It has been considered a sacred mountain since ancient times due to its rugged terrain and strangely shaped rocks. It was selected considering the fact that it has 8 scenic views of Songgye and 9 valleys of Yongha and was designated as a national park (1984). It is famous for the stone Buddha statue at Mireuksaji Temple, where Prince Maui and Princess Deokju are said to be facing each other at the end of the Silla Dynasty and alleviating their sorrow over the fall of the country, the rock-carved Buddha at Deokjusa Temple, and Deokjusanseong Fortress.
Yeongbong Course is the course most visited by mountaineers. It is a flat road from Deokjugol Rest Area to Deokjusa Temple and Rock-carved Buddha across the bridge. There is a dense forest of broad-leaved trees around the hiking trail, making it a popular place for hiking with autumn leaves. There is a mineral spring right below the rock-carved Buddha. As you continue along the road to Peak 960, the pine trees harmonized with the strangely shaped cliffs here and there will leave you amazed. The closer you get to the Yeongbong peak you see as you head toward Songgye Intersection, the more majestic it feels. Yeongbong is a rock with a circumference of 4 kilometers and a height of 150 meters. To climb Yeongbong, you have to go behind Yeongbong and climb up the iron stairs. The slope is steep, so you need to be especially careful. The road back to Songgye Intersection and down to Dongchang Bridge is overgrown with forests, so the view is not good.
