”Since ancient times, the mountains have been called the second Geumgang or Sogeumgang due to their beautiful scenery. They are home to over 1,000 species of plants and animals, including Mangae tree and Miseon tree, and were selected considering the fact that they were designated as a national park (1970). Beopjusa Temple, Munjangdae, Jeongipum Pine Tree, Natural Monument No. 103, and Natural Monuments. No. 207, Mangae Tree, is famous.
The Beopjusa Temple return course, which is most commonly used when hiking Songnisan Mountain, is a course that involves climbing Munjangdae from Beopjusa Temple and then descending through Cheonhwangbong Peak along the ridge. This course allows you to visit many cultural assets and hermitages, including Bokcheonam Hermitage, Jungsajaam Hermitage, Gwaneumam Hermitage, and Sangsangam Hermitage. If you are short on time, you can get off at Sinseondae or Birobong Peak on the way to Cheonhwangbong Peak. The round trip course to Munjangdae takes approximately 5 hours and 30 minutes. Bokcheonam is worth a visit as it is the spring where King Sejo of the Joseon Dynasty prayed for the prosperity of the nation. Suam Pagoda and Hakjodeunggok Pagoda near the hermitage are stupas and are designated as Chungbuk cultural assets. Gyeongeopdae, famous for its beautiful autumn leaves along with Jungsajaam Rock, is a place where there is a legend that General Lim Gyeong-eop trained his mind and body, and the longevity mineral water is nearby.
The starting point is Boeun or Cheongju. - From Boeun (☎043-543-1580) to Songnisan Mountain, local buses run every 10 minutes from 07:20 to 21:30. Takes 20 minutes. - Intercity buses run from Cheongju (☎043-234-6543) to Songnisan Mountain via Boeun 29 times a day from 06:30 to 20:40. Takes 1 hour and 50 minutes Gyeongbu Expressway Cheongju or Okcheon IC → Boeun → Songnisan
