Situated in the tranquil heartland of Korea, Doraksan Mountain (965.3m) is best visited during mid-summer in July when cool stream waters run under green shades. Walking up the gentle dirt trails leads to an open vista. Indulging in spicy and soothing local marsh snail soup (Olgaengi-guk) afterward captures the genuine hospitality of the region.
”Located between Sobaeksan Mountain and Woraksan Mountain, it is a rocky mountain scattered with Danyang's eight scenic scenic spots, Haseonam, Jungseonam, and Sainam. It was selected for its beautiful scenery. Haseonam, which is located in a 10km section of Danyangcheon, a tributary of the Namhangang River, and Jungseonam, which has magnificent rocks such as Ssangnyong Falls, Okryeondae, and Myeonggyeongdae, Gyeongcheonbyeok, Sangseonam (上仙岩), home to Waryongam, Ilsadae, and Myeonggyeongdam, is especially famous.
The starting points for hiking are Sangseonam Hermitage and Gunggi-dong. The Gunggi-dong course is closed to visitors during the forest fire warning period. The Sangseonam side is most often used as a route up and down the mountain. After passing Sanggsang Bridge, there is a crossroads between Jebong (Sangseonsangbong) and Geombong. To get to Geombong, you must turn right at the end of the concrete paved road and cross the valley. When you climb up the ridge, you will see a series of large and small rock peaks, including Small Seonbawi Rock, Big Seonbawi Rock, and Beombawi Rock. A thrilling rocky road unfolds from Geombong to Chaeunbong. There are cliffs on both sides, so you have to be nervous. When you reach Sinseonbong Peak after passing through Hyeongbong Peak and the three-way intersection, you will see a scenery so beautiful that you will be amazed. Even if you don’t go to the top, the scenery is breathtaking. At the top of the sprawling Sinseonbong Peak, there is a small puddle that does not dry up all year round. If you go back down to Hyeongbong from the summit and follow the northern tomb, you will reach Jebong. If you go down from here along the rocky hill and turn into a mountain path covered with fallen leaves, you will arrive at Sangseonam Hermitage.
