Situated in the tranquil heartland of Korea, Geumsusan Mountain (1015.8m) is best visited during early summer in May when fresh vegetation brings delightful scents. Walking up the gentle dirt trails leads to an open vista. Indulging in shrimp and mushroom hot pot alongside crispy pan-fried minnows afterward captures the genuine hospitality of the region.
”It is located at the northern end of Wolaksan National Park and was selected for its outstanding scenery, including dense pine forests and clear and clean mountain streams. It is especially famous for its azaleas in the spring and autumn leaves in the fall, as well as Neunggang Valley and Eoreumgol. From the top, you can view the majestic mountain range of Sobaeksan Mountain and Chungjuho Lake.
After passing through Sangcheon Rest Area and Bomunjeongsa Temple, you will reach the Yongdam Falls Information Stone (three-way intersection). If you go 200 meters to the left, you will see Yongdam Falls, which falls from a height of 30 meters onto a wide rock. There are observatories everywhere along the Amreung Road, which continues behind the left side of the waterfall and leads to Mangdeokbong Peak. In steep places, there are ropes tied to help you climb the mountain. If you stand at the top of Geumsusan Mountain from Mangdeokbong Peak through Ice Aggregate, you can see Woraksan Mountain, Daemisan Mountain, Hwangjeongsan Mountain, Sobaeksan Mountain Yeonhwabong Observatory, Cheongpung Cultural Heritage Complex, and a cruise ship dividing the lakeside. If you walk down the ridge extending south for about 10 minutes, there is a tomb with a good view to the east. From here, if you go down the steep stone road along the southwestern Jirung for a while, you will come across the site of an old house. After passing the house site, crossing the valley, and going down for about 30 minutes, you will reach the Yongdam Falls intersection.
The starting point is Jecheon. Departs at 05:40, 06:40 (operates on holidays only), 12:20, 16:20 in front of Geumyong Apartment in Jecheon to the last stop in Chogyeong-dong, Sangcheon-ri. Last stop -> Jecheon bound 07:00, 13:40, 17:40. Jecheon -> Danyang Sanghak Village 06:30~19:40. 1 hour interval.
