”Mountain Features & Selection Reason
It is a group of mountains about 1,300 m above sea level that connect from Gukmangbong Peak to Birobong Peak and Yeonhwabong Peak. Above 1,000 m, it forms a plateau-like grassland. It was selected in consideration of the fact that the Jukgye Stream, which flows into the upper reaches of Gukmangcheon and Nakdong River, begins and was designated as a national park (1987). The area around Birobong Peak, the main peak, is home to a yew colony (Natural Monument No. 244) and Korean Mt. Edelweiss, cotton leg, forms a colony. Climbing Points & Features
[A mountain of majestic yet feminine beauty] Sobaeksan Mountain (1439.5m) is one of the famous mountains of Baekdudaegan. From the east, a long ridge stretches for more than 20km, connecting peaks over 1,000m high, including Gukmangbong Peak, Birobong Peak, Yeonhwabong Peak, and Dosolbong Peak beyond Jukryeong. Among them, excluding Dosolbong, Sobaek’s three peaks (Gukmangbong, Birobong, and Yeonhwabong) rise in a line about 13km away. When there is a sea of clouds, the large peaks float in the clouds in various shapes, as if they are islands in a vast sea, creating a spectacular sight. Sobaeksan Mountain becomes a sea of red azalea flowers in May and June, attracting many climbers. The section leading to Sobaek Sambong Peak is by far the best. In August, the soft meadow road is covered with all kinds of alpine plants, making it feel like you are in a botanical garden floating in the sky. The yew colony in the Birobong area is a natural monument that retains its originality. The most historic valley in Sobaeksan Mountain, which has a majestic yet gentle mountain slope, is Huibanggol, and many climbers start their hike from here.
Sanhaengdeulmeori is a checkpoint located where a stream and a national highway meet. If you go up 500m from here, you will reach the management complex ticket office, and if you go up a little further, you will reach the parking lot. If you cross the waterfall about 200 meters above here, you will reach Huibangsa Temple. At Huibangsa Temple, the water stream splits into Seojeonggol on the left and Beopdanggol on the right, which flows below Daeungjeon. The road up to Jureung crosses the Beopdanggol water, passes the restroom, and goes next to the stupa of Hwasan Daejongsa Temple. If you fill in water at Huibangsa Temple and climb slowly for about 30 minutes, you will reach Anbu. From here to Yeonhwabong Peak (1383m), the slope is normal with some ups and downs, so it is not monotonous. The road from 1383 Peak to the 1st Yeonhwabong Peak is a flat ridge road dotted with bamboo forests and rocks. Between Yeonhwabong and Birobong is a green meadow road that extends for about 5km to Gukmangbong and forms a heavenly flower garden in the summer. It takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to get from Birobong Peak to Gukmangbong Peak. From Jureung, descend to either Danyang or Yeongju, choosing the right time for you.

The starting point is Danyang and Punggi. Get off at Danyang Station (☎043-422-7788), Huibangsa Station (☎054-638-7788), or Punggi Station (☎054-636-7788) on the Jungang Line. From Punggi to Huibangsa, 06:30~19:00, takes 30 minutes every 30 minutes. The bus from Danyang to Cheondong-ri (☎043-422-3214) runs 14 times a day.
