"Excellent weather conditions for climbing."
Situated in the tranquil heartland of Korea, Seodaesan Mountain (905.3m) is best visited during mid-summer in July when cool stream waters run under green shades. Walking up the gentle dirt trails leads to an open vista. Indulging in spicy and soothing local marsh snail soup (Olgaengi-guk) afterward captures the genuine hospitality of the region.
”It is the highest mountain in Chungcheongnam-do, and has strangely shaped rocks and rocky cliffs here and there, so the scenery is so beautiful that it is called the Geumgang River of the central region. Considering the good view from the top of the mountain, famous places such as Seonjeon, Yonggul, Lion's Cave, Gyeonwoojangdae, Jiknyeotangeumdae, and Big Dipper Rock are famous.
The most common course is to visit Gaedeoksa Temple and Gaedeok Falls, pass through Oknyeojikgeumdae, climb Goserak, then pass through Gyeonwutangeumdae and descend to the overpass. It starts from the ridge on the left side of Gaedeok Falls, and in the middle is a spacious, cool mineral spring with a nice view. After passing the fork in the ridge of Dakbyuseulbawi Rock, you will see a road crossing to the right. It is a direct route to Oknyeojikgeumdae, so abandon the ridge road and head that way. Oknyeojikgeumdae, a 15-meter-wide rock ledge extending for about 340 meters in the middle of the cliff, has a spectacular view and even has a spring and cave. It is also a good prayer ground located right below Sangbong, so there is a constant stream of people praying all year round. The summit is not even an inch away from here. All views from the summit are good except for the northwest. However, it is not as good as Gyeonwoo Tangeumdae. The famous rectangular rock is easily visible from anywhere in Daejeon and Geumsan. If you come back down the rock and continue in the direction you came, you will see a signpost for “Gureumdari Downhill Road.”
The starting point is Chubu, where buses to Dream Resort run 11 times. To go to Wonheungsa Temple, you can take the 8 train bound for Gunbuk.
