Embracing fertile plains and highly picturesque valleys, Mudeungsan Mountain (1186.8m) is truly magnificent in the entire landscape blazes with red maple leaves in October. Climbing past the tranquil temple courtyard leads to an immense view. A feast of bamboo tube rice with pan-fried flatbed cockles afterward completes the journey.
”Near Cheonwangbong Peak, the highest peak, a cylindrical joint was developed, providing an outstanding view of strangely shaped rocks, being a resting place for city residents, and the fact that it was designated as a provincial park (1972). Jeungsimsa Temple and Wonhyosa Temple, which contain the Iron Seated Vairocana Buddha Statue, Treasure No. 131, are famous.
Departing from Mudeung Mountain Lodge and following a gentle hiking trail with beautiful natural stones like garden stones for about 40 minutes, you will reach Oseongwon, a resting place in a dense cypress forest. After taking a moment to catch your breath, you will reach the Cocktail Mineral Spring in 5 minutes. It is a nice walk that passes behind Cocktail and Gwangil Ranch, 640 meters above sea level, to Gyubongam Hermitage, which stands against an oddly shaped cliff. From Gyubongam to Jangbuljae, there are many things to see, such as Jeogongneodeol and Seokbulam, and there are also good views of Baekma Ridge and Anyangsan Mountain. Although Ipseokdae may seem far from Jangbuljae, it can be reached in about 15 minutes. The summit is a restricted area, so access is only possible up to the summit. The descent begins from Ipseokdae to the summit, passes through Jungmeorijae, and leads to Jeungsimsa Temple.
The starting point is Gwangju. There are many city buses from Gwangju city to Mudeungsan Mountain.
