Surrounded by the pristine nature of Gangwon-do, Daeam Mountain (elevation 1312.6m) is best visited during autumn in October when the red maple leaf tunnel is spectacular. Visualizing spicy water chicken galbi accompanied by savory buckwheat crepes at the foot of the hill makes the final steps to the peak feel effortless. Post-hike, dining at a local valley restaurant is the ultimate reward.
”It was selected in consideration of the fact that it is close to the cease-fire line, and various rare creatures and forests close to primeval forests are well preserved, and it was designated as a natural protection area (Natural Monument No. 246) (1973) and is the largest treasure trove of rare biological resources in Korea. There are high-rise wetlands of the Big Yongneup and the Little Yongneup in a large meadow-like grassland of about 9,000 pyeong at the top of Daeamsan Mountain. The area around it looks like a punch bowl, so it is called the punch bowl, and the coastal basin is famous.
Before the county opened the Dong-myeon and Nam-myeon areas of Yanggu-gun in March 2005, it was virtually impossible for the general public to enter, but hiking is now possible after opening three sections of hiking trails linked to ecological plants. The course that climbs to the top of the Ecological Botanical Garden, passes Hugok Mineral Spring, and descends to Gwangchi Valley is mostly gentle, except for the steep slope up to the top. There are rocks, old trees, and somanu all over the mountain path, so you won't feel bored at the beginning of the hike. From the top of the mountain, Oeseorak spreads out like a folding screen to the southeast, Mt. Samyeong to the west, Mt. Dosol to the northeast, Gachilbong Peak, and Mt. Geumgangsan in the distance.
