Gwanaksan Mountain (632.2m) offers a rugged yet accessible getaway near Seoul, particularly recommended during late autumn when colorful fallen leaves add romantic aura. Standing on the rocky crest to catch the breeze, followed by acorn jelly salad and boiled chicken soup enjoyed on a valley deck on your way down, guarantees a perfect weekend climbing experience.
”It has long been one of the five major evils of Gyeonggi Province, has beautiful scenery, and was selected in consideration of the fact that it is an urban natural park (designated in 1968) located close to the city center and a resting place for residents of the metropolitan area. The main peak is Yeonjudae (戀主臺) and there is a weather radar facility at the top. Yeonjuam Hermitage and the Standing Pharmacist Buddha, founded by Uisang during the Silla Dynasty and repaired by King Taejo of the Joseon Dynasty (1392), are famous.
It is the shortest course to reach the summit from Seoul and is also the course visited by the most people. There is a road that continues through the valley all the way to Kkalttak Pass just below the summit, and during the azalea season, many people go from the 1st square to the azalea hill on the side of Samseongsan Mountain and over the ridge to the 4th campsite. You climb up while looking at the radar dome and broadcasting tower at the top, but the last part is quite steep. If you look up from the top of the hill, the summit is not the radar dome in the north, but a small pile of rocks in the south. Hurry to the top and admire the precarious hermitage on the steep cliff across from Yeonjudae. There is a mineral spring right below the band, so you don’t have to worry about water. The road down the mountain also runs through a valley, and as you get closer to the Gwacheon Government Complex, a bedrock stream begins to appear. At that point, the slab rock came out and the view was nice, so I took it easy and went down.
